What are SOUL-BOUND Cards? [ENG/PT-BR]

What are soul-bound cards? Is this the end of reward cards? The new view of time for splinterlands.

O que são as soul-bound cards? É o fim das reward cards? A nova visão do time para o splinterlands.

WHAT ARE SOUL-BOUND CARDS?

Source

They are cards that are connected to your account (soul) and cannot be sold or exchanged, and can only be used by the original account. This type of card came with the aim of rewarding players instead of bots, as it will discourage bot farms since they will not be able to sell the cards. This idea is not 100% new. The cards used in brawls are already soul bound, that is, they can only be used in brawls and cannot be sold or traded.

IS THIS THE END OF REWARD CARDS?

Source

In the town hall there was talk of an idea to replace the current reward cards, which are nfts, tradable and sellable, with soul-bound rewards cards. The purpose of this exchange is to discourage the use of bots, which play in lower leagues, win cards and sell them, causing their price to always fall over time. Still, this idea comes to avoid the monopoly of cards by big players, who buy these cards already in max form a few days after launch, when bots dump in large quantities.

The incentive for players from higher leagues from what has been said will be a higher number of cards in the chest. Another point said is that only when the cards are maximized will there be the possibility of burning them to get dec.

Current reward cards that are still being minted will continue to appear in chests normally, but after that there will be no more reward cards like today, they will only be soul-bound.

I don't know about you, but I was really happy when a new letter came. That same happiness didn't happen with brawl cards.

THE NEW VISION OF THE TEAM:

Source

Even in the town hall it was very clear that the focus of splinterlands has changed. It has been said that the plan now is for splinterlands to be more like traditional games where people play for pleasure. It was said that they want people who have the mindset of "Hey this is a fun game, I want to keep improving my account over the years", like what happens in "normal" games. The difference is that in that model you will have built something that as they said "hopefully has real value".

At first it seemed to me that this issue of the end of reward cards was just a comment, but given the level of detail presented and how they will give a deadline for these changes, December, I think we can say goodbye to reward cards like the ones meet and say hello to soul-bound and a new splinterlands, more focused on play than earn. Strange because initially it was supposed to have both, because we know it as play2earn. However, we only saw earn and no play, but now it seems that we are going in the opposite direction.

Nothing was said about issuing SPS or DEC. I currently play bronze and only gain 1 sps each, I don't know 3 days maybe. I don't know if after these changes the alts I have in bronze will be worth playing, as the rental cost may end up being more expensive, since the sps drops in price and the dec is stable, but the rental cost remains the same .

It was said that the team will focus on the entry of new players in its new roadmap, but thinking from the point of view of a new player if I want to enter a game like the traditional ones, that I have to buy the cards to to win something and that not even the card I win is really mine to do what I want, I think I would stay in traditional games. Remembering that we still have to buy the spellbook.

I think the point of this change is more balancing rather than a complete shift.

Moving rewards cards to soul bound makes there be an aspect that encourages accounts that want to be competative to make sure they're playing and growing their account strength.

After a card has been maxed they talked about being able to burn the cards for DEC which helps to ensure that there is still an earn aspect on these cards.

Further, the exact specifics of this aren't set in stone, what they described was an idea for how to make this system work rather than exactly how it would. We know the goal is to have an element of the game that is more about growing an account strength rather than strictly earning, while still maintaining ways to earn.

With this change, we'd still see earning of liquid assets in the form of SPS and Packs. And it's possible that the value of the cards that are held goes up because there are less flooding the market.

I think the key is a balance.

We've described the game as “Play 2 Earn” but I think this is trying to balance the concept to “Play & Earn” so that it's not completely emphasizing the earning over the playing… otherwise it's a constant chase to try and be the most earning game in order to keep players - and that's impossible to sustain. For the strength of the game we need players to want to play with a side benefit of being able to earn.
