It all started with determination and a single step forward and before I knew it I was starting to move, talk, hustle, act and make decisions like a man lol, it might sound funny to you all but this is one of my biggest motivation to achieve success in whatever I set my mind to do and that was the beginning of my journey towards becoming a MAN...

Oh yes a man because while growing a lot of my friends weren't ready to become a man but I was different because their fears was one of my greatest wish in life...

They all want to stay kids forever while denying the harsh reality that one day the burden and load of the family and their family will be on their neck but I was eager, desperate, willing, prepared and determined to be a MAN at that age and the first step I took was to prepare and plan ahead so that my journey of becoming a MAN would be less lonely and cumbersome...

20221024_142949_0000.png

My father has been my greatest role model and his duties and responsibilities towards the family is what makes his definition of a man complete and I decided to follow in his step while growing up too and his deeds and praises were my guide towards becoming a MAN...

The above introduction is just a drive in into my main topic for day and before I decide to go into full details, I just felt like brushing my audience up with my source of motivation and inspiration in life and how I came to be the man I am while working in my father's footsteps...

      THE BAD...

Every man who is someone or something today has gone through a lot of things and when I talk about things I meant a lot of challenges and hurdles in life to achieve that which they have today and during that of hustling and bustling, their journey towards becoming a MAN started and now they are who they are because of what they have done in their early days which is regarded as their past...

In the last three years I have been blessed with the opportunity of working in different business organizations and to be precise I graduated high school 3 years ago to take up my first job and within 3 years I ended up working in 3 different organizations and in each organization I learnt something great, one that will benefit me not just now but in the near future too...

I worked as primary school teacher, a loan collector and store keeper, the above listed are the jobs I have done in the last three years before finding my way to the hive blockchain...

I faced a lot of challenges while working in these different organizations but one thing that kept going was that I say to myself whenever I get tired that; these are what a man faces in life to become a man, these words motivate me every time and before I knew it I quitted my teaching job after working for several months to find a better paying and suitable job for an high school graduate like me and it was at this moment I landed the hardest job a man could get, at first I thought of declining the offer because it had to do with money but I remained bold and courageous and I took up the job an that was how I became a LOAN COLLECTOR...

ONCE UPON A TIME AS A LOAN COLLECTOR...

Hmmmmm(sigh), working as a loan collector has to do with a lot than what meets the eyes, whenever I tell people I work in a micro finance company, they look at me thinking I just sit down in a office all day long attending to customers who wants to apply for loans and also repay their loans for a new disbursement...

Whenever they say that, I just smile while looking at them and I walk away with my intentions and words bottled in, there is a lot to working as a LOAN COLLECTOR than what people know and today I am going to share some hidden facts with you, something most people don't know about working as a loan collector...

It is indeed a fact that working in a micro finance company has to with money on daily basis because that is mainly what we do, we are regarded as lower bank or should I say micro bank because we give out short loans to customers, not just any customers but to customers who have one or two businesses they run, be it a trader, driver, motorcyclists, business men, teachers and most importantly we give loans to anyone who has a small scale business of his/her own...

We give out small and payable loans to our customers and before we give them the loan, they have to apply for it by filling a form including their ID cards and active mobile number and a trustworthy guarantor (he or she must be a good and reliable customer of ours)...

20221024_142949_0000.png

Short term loans last a month plus 7 days and every customer starts paying the next after their loan has been disbursed and they have to pay up before the end of 37 days...

There is loan of #30,000($66) , #45,000($97) , #60,000($130) , #75,000($162) , #90,000($195) and above but to collect above you must have a reliable business...

The main work is not giving out loans to customers but the main job and risk is going out daily to collect loans from those customer we disbursed to in every of their location everyday with us carrying bag full of money at the end of the day, imagine going around with our #500, 000 naira on daily basis, that is like $1100 USD on the road with over 4 different locations to collect money from and spending at least one hour thirty minutes collecting loans and marking their cards, I am walking on broken bottles every day with the fear of being robbed at gun point...

     WHY IT WAS BAD...

Working as a loan collector was bad for one thousand and one reasons and I will explain some of the main reasons why it is bad below;

money-163502_640.jpg
source

  • THE RISK OF BEING ROBBED : imagine going to and fro on foot from one location to another collecting loans in public places with many eyes looking at me and seeing me counting big monies on daily basis, tell me am I not open to robbery anytime???

I am bound to be robbed if I am not careful enough and if that should happen what would I tell my boss if I survive the robbery?? I will give him excuses and at the end of the day It won't end well with me...

Walking daily with at least half a million is like walking on broken bottles because you are working with high risk of being robbed in broad day light...

20221024_142949_0000.png

  • SEVERE INJURY : Imagine me being faced with robbers and in the cause of trying to snatch my bag, I kept on resisting and dragging it with them and for them to go scot free, they stab or shoot be in the leg and run away with the money, in that case am I not likely to loose my life in such cases...

  • RISK OF LOOSING MONEY : Working all day and after calculating your total collection for the day and you arrived at a particular total only for you to get to work the next day and realize your collection was short of a huge amount, in that case who would bear the loss if not you and most of the time one might not loose the money but the money given to you must have gone through some incantations and it lead to that amount missing from your collection...

I am faced with this risk everyday and I collect from local herbs seller too and such thing Is prone to happen...

  • COUNTERFEIT MONEY : This is a very common experience for all loan collectors like me lol especially the newbies who don't recognize fake from original, we are open to the risk of collecting counterfeit money from customers and at the end of the day we won't be able to pinpoint that person that gave us that money...

Out of Over 200 customers daily, who do you think gave you that money lol and at the end of the day, the worker ends up paying for it because he or she wasn't able to distinguish between counterfeit and original...

Working as a loan collector is bad because we are exposed to life threats on daily basis, we work with fears of different things including the fear of being robbed at gun point, counterfeit monies, loosing huge amount of money and so on...

In summary, in as much as it is indeed bad and risky, it is still one of my best job because I got knowledge worth of a million dollars, my lessons includes learning about finances and investment, understanding the concept of setting up a micro finance firm, factors to consider before taking loans from banks and investors, the best way of dealing with investors when it comes to profit and most importantly I learnt how to self establish myself and also how trust, honesty and discipline matters when it comes to the investors and the invested relationship, all these qualities goes a long way and they tend to pave path at the end of it all...

In conclusion, I had to quit working as a loan collector after I have achieved my aim and I left on a good note and guess what I have a permanent spot in that firm in the future and that is all thanks to my dedication and determination to my job...

I also faced some challenges while working as a loan collector, is it the money that got lost without me knowing how it happened or the way i made sure I paid all my debt before quitting and as I said above that is one of the risks of working as a loan collector...

Hello, your last job was quite risky as a collector, since you were exposed to being robbed for carrying large sums of cash, the solution to that was that customers made a bank transfer to avoid handling cash, the important thing was that you learned from finance .

Yes oh my brother, not all our custom are educated, we deal with both illiterates and literates and the only means to collect from them is to go their business stalls daily because that Is our job, there was a time where I was almost robbed but thank God it wasn't the money but my phone but they collected neither of it...
