ROBBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT || A TRUE LIFE STORY
Life is full of lessons. Each day comes with its ups and downs. No wonder this saying that "tomorrow is pregnant", only if we can predict what will happen to us in the next minute, we would be more careful but then, there are some harsh life experiences that teach us to be so alert and careful at all times and one of them is the one I will love to share with you all for this contest today.
Well, I relearned the hard way, after losing my hard-earned money 🤑💰 to robbers in broad daylight. Read to find out how... you might be learning a thing from my true life story 👌
It happened on December 11th, 2018. Will I ever forget this date? Hmmm, just maybe with time..... lolz. I had just finished my youth service (NYSC) in my country. I was thinking that the job will be there waiting for me but I was wrong. All my effort to secure a job immediately proved abortive coupled with my impatient, so I decided to go for a teaching job pending when I will secure my dream job. There is this private school not too far from where I reside in Lagos state Nigeria and so I applied as a classroom teacher. The interview was successful and I was hired though with a very low salary (#30,000). It's not a surprise for me because here in Nigeria, teachers are not paid well by the government compared to the worth of their job and most private school owners also pay less with so much workload.
I resumed the next day and I was given two classes to handle. Primary 3&4 class students offer 15 subjects each in that school and I was to teach all the subjects. Honestly, I expected the school to have subject teachers and not one person teaching the whole subject. However, I suggested this to the school owner but she didn't process the information because she wasn't ready to hire enough staff and spend more on salary. Just imagine me teaching 15 subjects in each class with both practical and lots of experiments 🧪 for the students. It was so stressful to the point that I took pain reliever drugs almost every night. The school owner had mounted CCTV CAMERA 📸 in the school and watches each classroom from her office so it was a kind of working under pressure knowing that whatever you say or do, you are being watched. Well, I endured the stress with the courage that it's just a temporary job for me ☺️. Why am I saying all this? It's just to give you an idea of what I passed through to get the hard-earned money I was robbed of.
Now to the main robbery experience... I resumed that teaching job sometime in September that year and when I was paid my October and November salary, I added some money to get a good phone for myself since I needed one badly then. Receiving my December salary, I decided to use it all and buy some Christmas wear for my two sons then. So I head off to the Lagos market for the shopping 🛒. Anyone that knows the Lagos market should know how overpopulated that market is but I didn't know that half of the population wasn't in the market to buy or sell but to steal from their fellow human beings.
I had selected the clothes and shoes for my boys in a shop and was ready to pay. I dig my hands inside my bigger bag to pick up my other smaller bag where I hid the salary, the two phones I went to the market with, and my bank ATM CARD. Hmm, to my greatest chagrin, my smaller bag containing all that was nowhere to be found 🥹😭. I felt like I was dreaming. I searched and searched, all to no avail. I screamed! Wooooottttt 👁️? Did I just lose all my hard-earned money made from that school? My two phones and my ATM CARD? Tears roll down from my ears. The woman I am in her shop felt so bad for me, she then told me countless similar stories of such crimes in the market and the reason why she put CCTV cameras in her shop. She quickly played it back to see if the stealing happened in her shop but we couldn't trace it. Looking at my bigger bag, we could see a razor cut by the side just before the bottom of the bag. Those market criminals according to the story I heard that day are professionals in what they do. They also use charm in such a way that you hardly notice when they are actualizing their mission. They also know a bag containing money, so they can just target it, cut that point of the money in the bag, and remove it from there. One will be patrolling the market with an empty bag unknowingly.
The unaware robbery left me devastated! I was left with nothing, not even a transport fare to go back home 😭, all my plans in putting smiles on the faces of my children during that period were shattered by that robbery. I became phoneless to God knows when.... imagine losing my two phones on the same day? So terrible 😔 moment in life... Life without a phone..lol. I quickly went to my bank to block the ATM CARD as well. Thanks to the woman I was supposed to shop in her store, she assisted me with transport money to go back home and cool off.
LESSON LEARNT!!!
I learned to always carry my bag like a baby in my hands each time I am entering such a big market to avoid repeated sad story
I learned never to enter such a market with two phones, I didn't know what I was thinking anyways 🤦, preferably going with a Nokia touch phone won't hurt. lolz
I learned to be more conscious of my environment. Staying alert wherever I found myself, being so protective can save the day.
Finally, this story means a lot to me because I have saved others (my friends) who didn't know much about the happenings in that market and we all have been applying high precautionary measures ever since I fell, victim. Robbery can happen at any time but the one we can prevent, why not?
The festive season is here again and robbers are on the increase. Wherever you are my dear friends, please guide what you have jealously, losing even a pin is never a good experience.
Stay alert, stay positive, and stay safe!👌

Hmmmmmm hot hot hot, judging from the way you highlighted everything I see an bear your pains with you dear, the stress an job was one issue, the payment was another issue and now the stealing was the biggest issue...
Nigerian schools are very stingy when it comes to hiring and paying teachers lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣, teachers are the Lowest paid workers in Nigeria to me oh I swear, imagine stealing two phones and purse in a crowded area was just so crazy...
Damn this is a real life shit my dear, but I am happy you didn't loose any thing apart from that and it's can be gotten back but life can't my dear, your children will have to bear with you back then ...
Thank you for this beautiful write up dear...
My dear...it was a big mess coupled with the stress the school subjected me into. But glad I have life, it only took some time to get all of that back... of course the kids understand oo but I cancelled their Christmas travel out of pain 😂😂
Lolz 😂🤣🤣 ahhh he go pain me too lolz 😂🤣 but thank GOD it wasn't more than that lolz 😂🤣
The experience can be so devastating, losing all your hard earnings in few seconds. Money worked for, starting from September. 🥺 I had a similar experience though but in my case it was through the metaphysical. The whole scene took place without my clear eyes, just after the whole thing happened I then realized myself. I couldn't attribute blame to anyone though, I believe they are hungry people.
In Nigeria, we just have to accept the state we find ourselves and plan on making something better. Life is a process.
My dear, it was so devastating
My poor money 😂😂
Aah! Sorry for your own experience
It's well with us here in Nigeria
😂😂😂 Nigeria our country

Wow

My dear I don't how people stay in there house and plan robbery like your planning your life..
The experience is nothing to experience.
Thank you for sharing,
Honestly me I don't even get carried away I hang my bag across my shoulder...
And moreover now they've started another scheme, this time you'll enter vehicle just when you want to close the door,a middle aged person will scream once you just get distracted trying to apologize, your property is gone..
Honestly we need to be guarded.
Thank you NKEM
Hmmm
This new scheme I have not heard it oo
Thanks for this info
I am planning to go to the same market soon
I will be extra careful 😂👍
You should please..
Stay safe🙏❤️
Lagos is the home of wisdom, I was in traffic when a man started screaming that a guy picked up his phone from the dashboard when another guy distracted him from the other side of the vehicle.
I haven't experienced such because my mom taught me a lot of things so I don't go to market with bags and I am always walking sharply so if you keep up with my walking speed, I get suspicious immediately. You learned you're and am glad to teach people who are ignorant about those market stealing styles.
Lagos is one kind state filled with different characters....I am more careful now.. thanks for visiting George
So painful, I guess you went around this season when there is always human traffic in the market,
If only those thieves can put in that smart move into something positive. May God help us,
My dear...it was exactly this Sam season. The human traffic in Lagos market is second to none
Good thing I have learnt my lesson
It never happened again so far😂
Thanks for stopping by 👍
This is so tragic, losing your money that way to people who didn't even know the pains you went through to earn that money. I have heard stories like yours and I made sure to avoid such tragedy from happening by gripping my bag firmly in public.
Only if they knew what I went through to get that money, they would have pity me small 😂
But all is well...they thaught me to be wiser
Thanks for stopping by Stella 👍🥰
You'll never give them a chance to have their way again.
You're welcome too. 😇
Those guys are well-trained in the bad thing they are doing.
Well, they took your blood because your sweat is your blood and I believe that someday they will pay for it even more. So sorry about that deep pain

Thank God for life shaa

Oh my God, how did you manage to go home in that state? I can imagine your pain and all you felt. I have had a similar experience but I didn't see the robbers I was only seeing the debit alert on my phone it's a story for another day.
So sorry for your loss dear. Thank you for sharing your story it's an awareness call to be mindful when ever we are out or in a very big market.
My dear, I had to summon courage and go home oo at least for the sake the kids I left at home. I must confess, it wasn't easy oo.. I was so empty...but glad I learnt a big lesson in a harsh way
Oh my dear, I thank God for your courage. So sorry for your loss God would expose all this thieves. Thanks for sharing

Hi there, Im joe19 newbie here I read your post and I feel pity for your situation because I encounter this kind of situation before so hard on you After all, the money you earned is very important to you. I once experienced also I lost my 2 weeks' salary I didn't know that I slept in the chair with my bag that include my pay cheque and my working id that day when I woke up my bag is gone and I could do nothing about it.Yup, it's a lesson learned for me too.thanks for sharing your story
Awwwwwn 🥰
Thanks for reading my story and leaving your kind words
I am so sorry for your own experience as well
We are learning to be more careful 🙂
That is just unfair! It wasn't your fault and could've happened to anyone, anywhere in the world.
All the best!
Thank you so much for your kind words
I am more careful now
Omo, I am so sorry, Nkem. I can imagine your son without Christmas gifts... So painful. And your two phones.. oh my goodness. Again, I am sorry.
Thanks for sharing.
My dear, I even cancelled our planned travel that Year 😂
It wasn't a funny experience anyway but glad it's now in the past.
Thanks for your kind words ☺️😉😊
Lol. I am sure you had more travelling experience in subsequent years. So, that didn't hurt anymore 🥺
Sure sis
Thanks 🥰🤗
You are welcome, darling
Hehehe. What a nice read. And I also got to learn a lot from it.
Imagine them making some other people cry just for them to have a good life. Do they really expect to have one? I just pity their generations to come.
Thank goodness you got over it and the woman was there to lend you some money home.
Hehehe I am experiencing life after nysc and the dreams 😂. It not easy. God help us in Nigeria oo.
My dear...that was an unforgettable experience...oh my goodness 🤭, those robbers has no conscience
Of course they can't live a good life with that style.
Glad it's now in the past and I am now wiser
Thanks for visiting my dear 👍
Good to have you back
Always welcomed my dear sis. My regards to my bothers at home.
They will hear 💖
Working as a teacher in Nigeria is not an easy job at all and I was so pained to realize what you wanted to use the money that got stolen for. Their people are really heartless but then we still have to be very careful of our belongings when in such a busy place as Lagos market. I've never been there, but I've heard so many stories about that place and non of them is ever pleasant.
So sorry about that experience, I totally felt like crying but seeing how you were adding humor to your write up, I was able to control my tears from falling down.
Thank you so much sharing this with us my amiable ambassador, I truly appreciate it 🥰😘🥺
The story really brought back the pain I went through then but such is life. We learn everyday especially with practical experiences.
I really appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for tunning in 👍🤗🥰
I can imagine, the good thing is we've learned and that's what matters now.
You're always welcome Ma'am, I'm really happy I read this 🙂
