Some success from my numerous rice growing season

Rice planting usually commence from the month of may through to the month of July in this location in Ilorin.

The rains are a determining factor as to when planting begins or what type propagation method to be used.

Spraying bushes with chemical.

There are two ways we do plant rice here

  • Direct planting into the soil
This is done when the rains are not fully heavy but the farmland is wet enough for the rice seeds to germinate without getting rotten in the soil.
The month of May through to June is best time to this.

  • Creating nursery and Trans planting method.

When the soil becomes waterlogged typical of a rice farms from the month of July, a seed bed {Nursery has to be created first} where the rice is nursed for at least 3weeks on moderately wet land before
transplanting into the rice field.

Today am showing us the pre planting procedures where we use chemicals to clear the bushes from the rice field.

After spraying these chemicals we were lucky to have some dry lands in the field even at this time of the year because the rains haven't been so heavy this year and the land is not yet waterlogged.

This weekend will be another day to work in the farms again and am hopeful to bring some quality farmland pictures and our next working step.

Let's experience another planting season.

Beautiful.. although I know almost nothing concerning rice farming🌾🧺 I learnt that they only grow in specific regions depending on the type of soil

That's true... Usually loamy-clay is the best and it has to be waterlogged.
Although with agricultural engineer now we have specie of rice that can grow on almost all soils. They are now categorized into topland and low land rice.
