Splinterlands - Splintershards AKA SPS (My Thoughts)

We are more than 2/3 away from the daily air drops of SPS and very soon the APR on the token will hit 20% and maybe even below that as staking rewards. Also what is the future for SPS in my opinion?

SPS Distribution

Chart above is straight out of Splinterland's SPS white paper. A full year of air drop has almost been completed and notice the green section of the graph will remain the same size after month 12. This will likely mean the end of daily collection of SPS through amount of collection points unless governance takes places and votes on adjusting the current SPS distribution rewards. For now it seems unlikely as the DAO to allow SPS stakers to vote has yet to be a primary focus to Splinterlands developers.

What will rise in SPS earning is the light blue and light orange section of the graph. This includes staking / liquidity pool participation and play to earn respectively. Play to earn yielding SPS tokens will be bring forth new use of SPS as current utilities for the token is somewhat limited.

SPS Utilities

Currently SPS has few uses if any at all. For one providing it to liquidity pools to yield more SPS rewards and staking the token to earn just slightly below 24% APR. The reward yields are no long as attractive as day 1 of SPS inception. With triple digit % rewards long gone there has to be new ways to attract users to earn and stake SPS.

In short response there are such as validator nodes that are about to be introduced by the Splinterlands developers. With a focus on supplying SPS and Vouchers to earn a spot to run a node investors can earn even more SPS. Meanwhile also support the day to day operations of the Splinterlands game itself with the validator nodes.

SPS currently is used in game in a couple of ways. First if staked it counts toward a league tournaments. The more SPS staked the better odds of qualifying to enter higher league tournaments. In addition the rewards for top players in the leagues are earning SPS rewards.

It remains to be seen if demand for SPS will rise as more utilities for the token rises. For now SPS price has held steady above $0.10 for quite some time but there will need to be more uses to pump up demand.

Conclusions

Over the course of the year most days I have remember to collect my daily SPS air drop and staked them to yield more SPS.

As of now I continue to stake SPS and earning SPS where ever I can. The more collection power I have in my account the more daily SPS air drop to me.

I have faith in the future of SPS and intend to hold it for at least another 4 years as that is the end of SPS distribution. The max amount of SPS ever to be created is a staggering 3 billion but as time rolls forward there will be less and less SPS to earn.
