An Exceptional Action/Thriller —Review Of The Gray Man

avatar

Nothing makes my weekend more interesting than an action-packed, thrilling, crime movie. When I read familiar actor names like Ryan Gosling, Chris Evan, Regé-Jean Page and Alfre Woodard on the film poster, I knew I would like The Gray Man (2022).

This crime/thriller is based on the Gray Man novels written by Mark Greaney and I understand this film is the first in the series, which means we should expect more sequels based on the remaining books. This is exciting especially with how this first film turned out.

The Gray Man focuses on a prisoner who gets a deal from the CIA to be their operative and is called "Six" (superbly played by Ryan Gosling). On one of his missions, Six discovers that the target is also a CIA operative called "Four" and that he has sensitive information on a flash disk of Denny Carmichael's (played by Regé-Jean Page) illegal activities and unsanctioned missions. Six kills four, takes the disk and runs.

To cover his tracks, Denny Carmichael calls in Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans), a former CIA operative, to use all the resources at his disposal to eliminate Six. The chase begins….do you think Denny Carmichael will succeed?

Review

This is one solid, fast-paced, action-packed thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. The director and cast did a great job harnessing viewers' attention right from the beginning. There was no dull moment.

The choice of the cast gave this film a positive boost. I was totally impressed with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans' performances. I am not a fan of Captain America in Marvel's Avengers series but it was funny to watch Chris Evans act the part of an erratic, batshit crazy assassin. One thing I did not admire about Chris Evans was the moustache. Gosh, he looked weird in my opinion. And for Ryan Gosling, his handsome face puts him permanently in my good books!

The scene I enjoyed the most was the final fight between Lloyd Hansen and Six. It was spectacular because both characters had met earlier on but were unable to test out their strengths against each other. Lloyd Hansen was unexpectedly put to sleep by a tranquiliser. But in the final scene, I knew Six would win being the protagonist but he needed to convince viewers that he won fair and square. Six's fighting techniques and the blows he got in were superb.

CIA lady operatives, Ana de Armas and Jessica Henwick were superb. Their performances too were badass.

The settings and visuals were impressive. I kind of cried a little for the sleek and beautiful cars that were destroyed in the gun fights but I'm sure those scenes are props and therefore not real.

I enjoyed this film and give it 4.8 stars out of 5. The Russo brothers did great. I'm already looking forward to the sequels and hopefully, they will be better and more action-packed than this first film.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

I think Hahah Chris Evan looks funny with the mustache for me 😅. I think the next sequel will be worth it. The second sequel of the series of the book is much more intense than the first one. Hop on the series and read it before it's premiere. Enjoy reading your review!

I agree. The moustache was unbecoming for a one-time super hero! 😂

If the second series is more intense, then the sequel will definitely be a hit. Thanks for your visit and support. 🙂

Well reviewed, I liked this movie but I just couldn't take Chris Evans as the villain.

...but I just couldn't take Chris Evans as the villain

Truly 😄. He looked funny and so unlike him. It's because we are used to seeing him as Captain America, the super hero and not as a villain. Hehe.

Thanks so much for your visit and support. 🙂 !PIZZA

So true, that's what I was thinking when writing the comment.
