The Weight Of Charred Hearts [Poetry]

A heart that beats for one and all, a little too much
Sees the beauty and best in every soul, unprejudiced
Sometimes you love people you shouldn’t
Giving your trust and care before it's earned

There are charred hearts, blackened by roaming evils
Yet you seek after them with such fierceness
Defying every rule of caution
Their deception coated in honeyed words, a thorny snare

A wily thief of sunshine, dimpled smiles and hearty laughs whistles
Looming in shadows like a dark storm waiting to break
Ready to colour your life with hues of pain and grief
To singe your heart and make it black like his

You heed every whistle, ignoring their flaws
A second and third chance, you say
Through the raging tempest, you wait
Hoping your light and love will guide them back

Broken into sharp shards, yet your heart beats for them
For your love holds the healing elixir
That purifies the charred hearts and turns them pink
Then some choose to stay scorched, unhealed

Let go of these leeches before your strength fades
Love from a distance and in depths
Because sometimes love is not enough
You are more deserving of it first and above all.
